Today, I would like you to write about loneliness, which is a major theme in Of Mice and Men. Write three paragraphs in response. You may either write them on your blog or reply to my post.
Why do some people feel loneliness so poignantly, while others do not?
When are the times most people are lonely?
Is there a difference between being alone and lonely?

i believe that otheres feel loneliness so poignantly because some people can't connect with other people as well as some people can.
ReplyDeletetimes when people can be most lonely is when they see other people hanging out together knowing they don't have someone they can hang out with.i also think there is a difference between being alone and being lonely being lonely is a feeling one has and being alone is having noone there with you you can be alone with out feeling lonely.
the idea of loneliness is shown in Of Mice and Men because Lennie doesn't have someone he can connect with but yet he also spends alot of time alone. like when he plays solitare he spends most of his time alone because of his disabilities.
Loneliness, a feeling of being all alone and no one needing you therefore causing this thing in life which is a big deal, depression. Some people feel lonely because they can have an easy life, not much to struggle and grew up a drama free life. others do because of what we have to go through every day, everyday is another whole day of others people on the drama stuff.
ReplyDeletethe times people would feel lonely is when you look at what someone got, and you don't. life is full of crap, we all live it and every days we learn how to dodge bullets even faster than the other day because as teens we are all growing and being lonely is a part of our life. I believe that there is a difference between being alone and being lonely, being alone means being alone where there is no one there for you and your just bored. Being lonely on the other hand means that you have nothing to turn to and you are a loner at every thing you do.
Loneliness can relate to this story (of mice and men) because there is just a lot of dumb acting in the story and most of the time people and animals would look to be alone. The dog was put down and slim didn't think it would be all that bad but now he feels lonely, because a dog is mans best friend and now the "BEST FRIEND" is gone.

ReplyDeleteloneliness being unhappy as a result of being without companionship of others...some people feel loneliness when theirs not that other have to give them edvice or be their for them when there up or or down rather its a relationship ,friendship, or family.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to Mice and Men by John Steinbeck their is a character in the story name lennie who has a mental disorder and at times he have this loneliness feeling and what comforts him is having a mouse as a pet ,so its not only just having humans as being a comfort for when your feeling this loneliness you can have other things to .
I think loneliness is a state of mind.It is how you feel. Just becuse you have friends, people to talk to or ways to entertain yourself you can still be lonely. Because it is a state of mind it depends on how you think and the expectations you set for yourself in life. People can feel lonely when there is no one for them to talk to or even just relate to.
ReplyDeleteIn the novel Mice of Men George seems lonely even though he is always with Lennie. He tends to play soitaire a lot when the other workers are all around him. He is always thinking of what his life would be like if he didn't have lennie. Things he would do, places he would go,almost as if Lennie is a burden. But then he thinks about and realizes that he likes having the companionship as he goes from ranch to ranch.
Lennie gets lonely sometimes that is why he likes the rabbits, puppies and mice. I think he feels that they dont judge him like others.

Some people feel lonely because they don't have any friends! usually when a person does not have any friends its mainly because they cant be trusted or they have a weird personality. Most people feel a sense of rejection or being unloved when they are lonely. Some times when most people are lonely is after they disappoint a group of people. Other times when people are lonely its because they have no LIFE! I think there is a difference in being lonely and being alone. most time when a person is alone they just feel the need to have their space. The idea of loneliness is shown in Of Mice and Men when Lennie feels lonely and he likes the mouse because it keeps him company. Loneliness is a major state of the ranch because on a ranch there is nothing but land, space, and animals.
ReplyDeleteloneliness comes from the desire of wanted attention. When someone is lonely, he/she would do almost anything for someone or something to make them fell wanted. However, just because someone is alone, it doesn't mean he/she is lonely. Loneliness can happen to anyone who feels by his/herself for a long period of time. When this happens, mst people will be happy with any kind of company they get.

Other people don't deal with this problem because of many reasons like if hat company was unwanted or he/she could just care less. Common times when a person is lonely are when family all leave around the same time leaving you by yourself. There is a difference between eing alone and being lonely. Loneliness comes from being alone. loneliness is a feeling and being alone is an action.
For some people, being alone isn't a problem at first. In time, however, other people get the feeling of loneliness. This comes from the repetitive action of being alone.
Some people dont feel lonely because they are content with beinq by theirself. Most people are lonely when there is nobody that cares for them and/or they do not have a companion to keep them company. There is definitely a difference between being alone and being lonely. You can be in a room full of people and still feel lonely and vice versa. Loneliness is shown in the novel Mice Of Men because the people there live everyday staying to themselves. They dont have anyone one to lok out for them like George and Lennie.
ReplyDeleteSome people are lonely because they don't want to trust people. They feel like the only person they are able to trust is themselves. Being lonely is because people are unable to trust others based on what happen in the past. I Think people have to take chances and trust that one person because everyone isn't the same. Being lonely is a choice and a mindset that you can chance. Being alone is having no one to turn to.

Some people don't feel loneliness very strongly if they have never really been close with someone. Sometimes, if that is the case, people can get used to their loneliness. If someone knows what it is like to be around close friends or family who care about them, they will be even lonelier when those people are not around.
ReplyDeleteLoneliness can be exacerbated by jealousy. When people see others having fun in a group, it hurts if they don't have a group to be part of. For this reason, sometimes a person can be loneliest when they are surrounded by others. Being alone and being lonely are not always the same thing.
Loneliness is important in Of Mice and Men because most ranchers are alone without any connections at all. This makes the relationship between George and Lennie special, even an object of suspicion. Also, Candy decides to buy into the ranch with George and Lennie because he fears the complete loneliness that will come once he is useless as a ranch hand.
People feel lonely because the lack of social interactions to any object or person. When there is no response or the social thing does not strike the person to react back to it. Some people do not become lonely because of either their social status or ability to start conversations with other people.
ReplyDeleteThe point where people start to get lonely is when they began to think, and when people think, they think they are misunderstood and alone because they start to extract little things and break down everything which leads to everything being a lie and leading to being lonely, because no one will understand.
Alone is having no type of social interactions with anything and Lonely is when you believe your misunderstood and try to be socially but normally ends up socially awkward.
In mice and men loneliness is shown through the emotions everyone has on the farm. They start to stretched of thoughts are the truth or the feeling of misunderstanding. Crooks took the misunderstanding path that everyone would shun him, even if he tried. Crooks is lonely, and needs attention to break throught his shell.
Some people are able to feel lonliness more than others because they actually sense that no one in the world relly cares about them whether thats true or not. People tend to feel most lonely when they aren't around others and if they don't have anyone that they understand or that understands them.
ReplyDeleteYes there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. The difference is that you can be with other people and still feel lonely because you don't appreciate or understand the people around you.
In Of Mice and Men the issue of loneliness is brought up by the character Crook who is a "nigger" that lives all by himself. He ends up bringing the issue up to Lennie when Lennie stops in his room and he shows Lennie how lonesome it is through his conversation about how he isn't wanted by most everybody.
We know that loneliness is a big factor on the ranch because of the way people talk about each other. We also see that most everyone that comes and goes is by themselves. They also try to talk to each other to get to know one another better so that maybe they won't be so lonely.

loneliness in the book is how Lennie seems like he is always lonely except that he has George. Especially with how George is such a rule enforcer it is really hard for him to talk to other people without George's permission.
some people feel loney because they are the outcasts of society and they don't feel welcome to associate with the general public. Also they may be shy or too nervous to even begin to speak to people so they are deemed an outcast and therefore lonely.
ReplyDeletePeople are more likey to be lonely around the holidays when everyone is happy around the,and or celebrating something because they feel left and want to enjoy something too. Alone is not the same as loney it would probably just depend on how your personality is and how you percieve yourself as a person.
The act of being loney has a lot to do with your own perspective of yourself to begin with. George has a sense of loneliness because he has a need to take care of people and has a soft spot for lenny. George has never had anyone look his way before and is overjoyed to have the company of george with him.
Loneliness is basically th feeling of being alone. Having the need to be within company with other but finding none. The are even cases where someone can feel lonely but constanly be around people. Loneliness can also be the reslt of someone feeling as if no one understands them. This usually is asociated with people who have complex personas. I personally have never felt lonely because I have a simple persona and am solitary by default.

Such as moving to a new home, going to a new school,or going to a different country, etc. Being alone means that you are physically by your self with no one around. But being lonely means you FEEL alone but physically your probably not. In "Of Mice and Men" George would feel lonely if Lennie was to leave him. Regardless of the fact that he always seems to get mad at hime for one reason or another.
Although I'm not really sure how lonely plays a part specifically on the ranch, lonely play apart in the book as a hole. Lonelness also depends on a person's self-confidence and sef-esteem. If either are particulary low then they are most likely to feel lonely from time to time. Why that is, I dont know. Nor do i really care to be honest.
Some people feel lonely because they feel that they have nobody to come forth to when they need them, some others do not because they feel that they can deal with things on their own. Everyone needs atleast one person to confide in but at the end of the day all you have is yourself. I guess maybe it all depends on your mindset! There is a great difference between being lonely and being/feeling alone. Feeling alone means that you may have someone to talk to but maybe talking to them you feel unheard or irrelevant, and being alone may mean that either you have no friends or you cant keep friends because of something that you did. Its a lose lose situation! Just about everyone in the story show signs of loneliness, they dont have anyone who show signs of caring for them or looking out for them.

Some people feel loneliness because they feel as if no one is compatible enough with them. Other people could just get along with everyone and so they are not lonely. Sometimes they are lonely too on the inside but they choose not to show that they are lonely. Most people are lonely when a loved one has passed away or if they do not have any one to help them with life.
ReplyDeleteThe difference between alone and lonely is that to be alone is a choice. The definition of alone is isolated from others and lonely is a depressing feeling of being alone. The idea of loneliness is showed in Of Mice of Men is how all of the workers are apart from each other, except with George and Lennie. I feel like there is symbolism in George playing Solitary, meaning alone or without companions. George is alone. Loneliness is a major state of being at the ranch by none of the men trusting each other of being “friends.”

ReplyDeletePeople feel lonely because they are unable to connect with others. They feel different because of their early life experiences, that may have made them feel seperate from outside life.
People are t=lonely the ost is when their are forciviley excluded from outside society. What I mean by that is due to their race, religion, belief, ec theyr are viewed as different.
Being alone is different from being lonely because alone could mean you have no one to relate to and feeling that no one can understand you. You can be lonely by how you can have many friends, but still be alone due to your own personal feeling of being differen, causing to cut yourself off from others becoming more lonely.

ReplyDeletePeople who feel loneliness so poignantly because they cant really find someone to connect with.People whom don't feel as much usually can connect with many people and know how to communicate in their society.Times when people are more like to be lonely: when a person has passed away, broke away from a relationship, & when a friend abandon them. Yes there is a great difference in those two words because when your alone your just by yourself or a couple of hours and waiting for that person to come back or you don't feel like being bothered so you just decide to be alone & being lonely is when you know that their is no one there for you any more and they start to do some thinking about life.
ReplyDeleteIn the novel Mice And Men, Lennie is the one lonely most of the time so he feels that he should go play with soft fury animals to keep his mind off things. He also like to be alone because of the situations that occur after him doing things.
I believe some People feel lonely because they might not have someone to connect with or may not be comfortable opening up to people, while others are more open and connect with people better. Times when people may feel lonely the most is when they have a problem and it seems like no matter what anybody may say or do it won’t change anything.

The idea of loneliness is shown in all the characters in the book Of Mice and Men. Curly’s wife is probably one of the loneliest people on the ranch because she is the only woman on the ranch; she is set apart from the others. Crooks is another character that is shown to be lonely, this is mainly because of the color of his skin.
In the book the characters are mostly alone, whether their state of loneliness is mental or social it seems that they are all struggling with the concept of being alone. Crooks is socially isolated while Lennie is mentally isolated, crooks doesn’t have a way to stop his isolation for the reason that he isn’t even allowed at any of the communal gatherings on the farm. Lennie lacks the common sense to remove himself from that isolation, so he bumbles on socially throughout the book.
ReplyDeleteI believe that people feel lonely for a number of reasons, such as not having enough friends, not knowing how to be close to the people they know, or not being accepted by others they try to be friends with. People are most lonely at night when they become less social and when there's peace. The difference between being alone and being lonely is very certain. Loneliness is a feeling of emptiness inside. It's pretty much a feeling of need to be with another person, but yet being alone is merely not being with other people. The idea of loneliness is shown in Of Mice and Men because Curly's wife is often left alone on the ranch while Curly handles his work. That leaves Curly's wife no choice but to be a tart and sneak around socializing behind Curly's back. Loneliness is a major state of being on a ranch because there's not always someone to talk to. Most of the time workers are very busy with work on the ranch and/or farm.
